About
A February, 2011 “pilot” of the Young Playwrights' Workshop affirmed the effectiveness of the program and led to the creation of a 3-week workshop in July, 2011. CPI recruited an impressive roster of Master Teachers and provided scholarships for talented youth for participation in the July workshops in creative writing, playwriting, and performance. In February, 2012, CPI presented an audition workshop for young people to build confidence and bolster their intrinsic talents. In August, 2012, CPI presented American Soup, a new play with music, at The Arts Center in Saratoga to universal praise among audience members; benefit performances raised funds for area non-profits. CPI also presented an October, 2012 reading of Sweetie, a new musical, in New York City as part of the League of Professional Theatre Women’s 30th Anniversary. In August 2013, CPI presented Saratoga Chips, a new play with music as part of the Saratoga 150 Celebration. CPI also participated in the presentation of the new musical Orphan Train as part of the Centennial Celebration at Grand Central Station in New York City. In 2014, CPI collaborated with the School of the Arts at the National Museum of Dance to establish a theatre arts program. CPI inaugurated the new theatre at the National Museum of Dance with a new Pinocchio, presented its first mystery, The Sound of Murder, at The Arts Center in August, 2014, followed by productions of Letters From A Window In The Sky and Other People’s Money in the summer of 2015, a reading of A Legend of Sleepy Hollow, productions of Master Class and The Vagina Monologues, readings of Shakespeare’s Star Wars and Two Gentlemen of Lebowski, productions of Guardians of the Treasure and Hollowville: An American Ghost Story in 2016, a successful 2017 Off-Broadway NYC run of CPI’s production of Kunstler and a subsequent run at Barrington Stage in the Berkshires, followed by a youth workshop production of The Golden Phoenix and the holiday return of American Soup. Our acclaimed youth theatre workshop returned in June of 2018 with Inst-Adventure: Metropolis. A live re-imagining of Night of the Living Dead followed in 2018 along with a premiere of Agatha Christie’s The Stranger. The return of Guardians of the Treasure was featured in 2019, as was our summer youth theatre workshop production, Friends of H.G. Wells: A Sci-Fi Support Group; the cult horror play Pontypool; and the world premiere of The Man in the Brown Suit. Another iteration of our youth workshop made up part of our 2020 season with Invasion USA: Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind, and two fully produced radio dramas: A Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Kunstler. We staged a world premiere of Poirots Investigate and a Speakeasy Event in 2021/22. 2023 brought the return Kunstler to Universal Preservation Hall, a new play reading series, the World Premiere of Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and our Holiday Speakeasy event Cosmic Christmas. The 2024 season took us to London, UK where our production of Kunstler was nominated for multiple awards including an Off West End Theatre Award (London’s equivalent of NY’s OBIE Award).
Our organization is spearheaded by talented theatre arts professionals of various disciplines and has been host to a number of notable theatre guest artists including Tony Award Winners and Broadway veterans.
